may 2009 release: label-less lp release (“private,” if you will) covering the first ever duo set between myself & geoff mullen, recorded in concert at the brendan murray-curated “uppercase sound #2” event @ pa’s lounge, somerville, ma, 02143, usa, on july 19th, 2006 ...
the music is entirely improvised, with geoff sticking largely to a suitcase-electronics-based setup (although he does provide some fine guitar & pedal alterations throughout) & myself to the doepfer (ditto guitar & korg guitar-synth as well, but i’m also running a tape of a prior “automatic synth” piece coming from the built-in speaker of the nagra at the back of the room) ...
the fidelity of the recording is rather woolly (hell, i had to essentially perform a full-on audio restoration to make sure that geoff’s guitar parts were even audible !!!) & the lp was cut a bit below reference (i.e. - it’s quiet - but not so much of a problem as so was the gig) but as the sole existing document of this one/two-off collaboration we’re both very happy with the results ...
each copy comes with a different photo taken “stop-motion” style (if you’ve seen any of my films you’ll know the score) that evening “pasted on” the cover, along with a series of gorgeous geoff-constructed high-contrasted inserts (again, all different) and a smattering of stray full-color images from the night in question as inserts ; no two copies are alike, nor two any two copies have the same cover image (!!!) ...
