Settings of poems by Robert Creeley, written for voice, harp and an expanded ensemble, and quite unlike anything else in the discography. Futurities is Steve Lacy at his most compositional: a full song cycle, staged with dance and lighting, in which Irene Aebi delivers Creeley's spare, halting lines over arrangements that leave enormous amounts of air around every phrase. The soprano saxophone functions as commentary rather than lead voice. It divided people at the time and continues to, largely because it refuses to behave like a jazz record while being made entirely by jazz musicians.

Original Hat Hut double LP with full booklet. Ambitious, austere and completely uncompromised.
