The Sextet in full flight. By the early eighties Steve Lacy had spent a decade in Paris building a band that could handle his particular obsessions - Monk, Zen, Buckminster Fuller, the exact interval between speech and melody - and Blinks catches it live and unedited across two LPs. Steve Potts's alto is the perfect foil, spiky where Lacy is dry; Bobby Few plays piano like a man simultaneously in church and in a bar fight; Irene Aebi sings and plays violin; Jean-Jacques Avenel and Oliver Johnson keep it moving. Compositions built from tiny cells, played with total precision, and no interest whatsoever in the American jazz market.

Original Hat Hut pressing, double LP in the label's oversized box packaging. One of the great documents of European-based improvised music.
