Steve Lacy's soprano saxophone in Berlin, alone in 1975 and with his quintet two years later. The first four pieces were recorded by Jost Gebers on 1 April 1975, the next three live at the Total Music Meeting at the Quartier Latin that November: together they made up Stabs, his solo LP on SAJ.
Esteem and Follies come from the quintet with Steve Potts on alto saxophone, Irène Aebi on cello, Kent Carter on double bass and Oliver Johnson on drums, recorded live at the Workshop Freie Musik in the Akademie der Künste on 11 April 1977, and formed side B of the Follies LP. All compositions are by Lacy.
New CD edition from the master tapes, published by FMP in 2010 as one of the twelve discs of the FMP in Retrospect box, also issued separately, with a booklet of liner notes by Bill Shoemaker.
