Incredible psych-groove soundtrack by Peppino de Luca (known for his collaboration with the library music band I Marc 4 (SME 006LP)) for the Italian cult movie La ragazza con la pistola (The Girl with the Pistol) (1968), directed by the legendary Mario Monicelli and starring Monica Vitti. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1969. This is the first vinyl reissue of the complete soundtrack. Pink and black vinyl; edition of 1000.
A great little album that ranks with the best of the Italian mod generation soundtracks – filled with playful touches and some very groovy tunes! Peppino De Luca's certainly not one of the better-known composers from this stretch – but the album's a top-shelf effort all the way through, almost even fresher than some of our favorites! Instrumentation includes some very offbeat electric sitar, romping jerk-styled rhythms, and some darker, spookier passages – all fluttering together in waves of sound that shift and turn nicely as the record goes on, making for way more than just a few simple variations on a theme! There's some nice organ work that bubbles under on a few cuts, plus some "experimental" sounds that remind us a fair bit of the Peter Thomas sci-fi scoring of the 60s.
