Solmania is the project of Masahiko Ohno, one of the key figures of the Osaka noise underground in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Alongside Masonna, Incapacitants, C.C.C.C., and others circulating through the Vanilla Records orbit, Solmania emerged from the same world of home-recording and ultra-limited cassette runs - noise made on homemade instruments and homemade systems, outside any commercial framework and mostly unknown beyond a small, dedicated community of underground traders.

Where some noise acts of the period pushed toward maximum volume and maximum density, Solmania frequently worked from a more textural, more nocturnal angle - the title Morphine Nocturne is entirely apt, suggesting something administered rather than inflicted, a sound that seeps and spreads through the body rather than assaulting it from outside. Ohno appears on the celebrated Noise Forest compilation alongside Merzbow, C.C.C.C., Masonna, Violent Onsen Geisha, Dislocation, Monde Bruits, and Incapacitants - an anthology that remains the essential portrait of the Osaka-Tokyo noise axis at its most fertile.

Morphine Nocturne on original Vanilla Records cassette - a rare artifact from a sinfully under-documented body of work. Vanilla Records, Vanilla Records-21.
