Musica sul velluto ("Music on Velvet") is a compilation of Ennio Morricone's softer film themes, love themes and lounge cues from the late sixties and early seventies, packaged by RCA for the domestic market as an easy-listening album. The material is anything but easy: the wordless vocals of Edda Dell'Orso, the modal harmonies, the way a bossa nova can carry menace.
An RCA Italiana original, the kind of record Italian households owned without quite knowing what they had. A good single-disc argument for Morricone as a mood composer.
