condition (record/cover): NM / EX - Musique Concrète on Varèse International (the label named for Edgard Varèse, who would have appreciated the honor) offers anthology of the form that Pierre Schaeffer invented and named. The compilation serves introductory function: one disc providing overview for listeners who might never encounter the original releases.

Varèse International operated from the United States, bringing European experimental music to American audiences who couldn't easily access French pressings. The cultural transfer worked both ways: American composers visited the GRM, French composers lectured at American universities, and labels like this facilitated the exchange.

The LP's existence testifies to musique concrète's international reach by the 1970s. What began as Parisian experiment had become global practice, techniques developed in RTF studios now deployed worldwide. This disc documents the dissemination, the moment when insider knowledge became general currency.
