Two years following his work 'Monumento Fiume', Giovanni Lami returns to Kohlhaas with a new release, once again investigating the intricate relationships between memory, the sonic medium, and decay. 'Eikon' originates from a series of acoustic cello recordings, subsequently disassembled and transformed by Lami, resulting in a unique deconstructed and layered object, lying somewhere at the intersection of soundtrack, decomposed ambient and video game music, shaped through the use of samplers, a modular system, and magnetic reel-to-reel recorders.

Although the essence of the original sonic material persists, its form is entirely transformed and rendered into a sort of perceptual absence. The concept of shadow, a recurring theme in Lami's work, resurfaces here, tied to sound, memory, and the evolution of the past. Giovanni Lami's research delves into the processes of degradation and the inherent limitations or interferences of all recording and playback devices, both analog and digital, ultimately uncovering intricate details and sonic irregularities. Revealing a fascination with the potential of error, his work explores how to channel imperfections rather than suppressing them within a strict system of rules, in order to achieve a balance between chance and narrative.
