Two familiar faces within the Kohlhaas fold—Stefano Calderano as part of the trio McCorman (2023), and Giovanni Di Domenico through his solo works "Polvere di rabbia" (2021) and "Stella Maris" (2025)—join now forces on "Caperea". Bridging Rome and Brussels, where Calderano and Di Domenico are respectively based, the record marks the first collaborative LP by the two musicians. Born from a shared sensibility and a mutual curiosity for non-linear structures, what began as a brief two-day session of unrestrained improvisation in Foligno quickly brought the duo to set out a conspicuous body of work driven by a joint fascination with rigorous, non-standard compositional forms. Spanning 10 pieces, "Caperea" draws subtle inspiration from a broad structural freedom, stepping firmly into the frame of the song only to dismantle and reconfigure it from within. Structures are shattered and rebuilt through minimal reiterated motifs, infinite timbral layering, field recordings, and subtle vocal fragments.
Di Domenico’s keys and Calderano’s strings move without hesitation, constructing a mysterious and nocturnal sonic universe. In the words of the artists, "Caperea" operates much like an original-language film without subtitles: a purely visual narrative that pulls the listener inward through the sheer weight and atmosphere of its soundscapes. An invitation to step inside and willingly get lost. Wisely mastered by Giuseppe Ielasi, "Caperea" is out on October 10th on a limited edition LP and digital, featuring a cover photograph by Tommaso Gallinaro, and printed by Legno.
