Chris Corsano
Chris Corsano, born in 1975, is an American drummer active since the late 1990s at the meeting point of collective improvisation, free jazz, avant-rock and experimental music. His long duo with the saxophonist Paul Flaherty set the tone: fast, dense, joyful playing that treats the kit as a single vibrating object, with bowed cymbals, hand percussion and whatever else is to hand. He has been the drummer of choice for Joe McPhee, Mette Rasmussen and Zoh Amba on the jazz side, for Sir Richard Bishop, Bill Orcutt and Jim O'Rourke on the rock side, for Rangda with Bishop and Ben Chasny, and for artists beyond category such as Björk, on the Volta album and world tour, Michael Flower and Okkyung Lee.
