*300 copies limited edition* One of the first The Rita releases, out in 1998 on Labyrinth Recordings in an edition of only 50 copies and highly sought after. Finally this special album is going to be reprinted into CD. One of the early albums where Sam started his adeventure into Noise, or better said: the very Harsh Noise subgenre known as "Harsh Noise Wall", a the term coined specifically for its sounds. This reissue is dedicated to Isabella and Sister Angela.
The recent related OEC cassette collaboration with elite harsh noise / performance artist The Gloria entitled ‘Sottana & Calze’ prompted the idea of reissuing the The Rita ‘Possessed Nun Sleaze’ cassette from 1996. After some cassette releases by Canadian labels, ‘Possessed Nun Sleaze’ marked the first American release for The Rita. The 90s The Rita audio worked with heavy Eurotrash film themes, inspired by and utilizing the VHS tape and magazine image material as much as possible to drive the different releases.
For The Rita, the heavy stocking and costume fetishism of European ‘Nunsploitation’ films was incredibly developmental for the project.
The original cassette release of ‘Possessed Nun Sleaze’ featured imagery from Play Motel (1979, Dir. Mario Gariazzo) and Behind Convent Walls (1978, Dir. Walerian Borowczyk - the image recreated by The Gloria for the recent The Rita collaboration mentioned above). ‘Possessed Nun Sleaze’ was primarily inspired by the greatest of Nunsploitation films - Joe D’Amato’s Images in a Convent (1979). The aesthetic and stockings of the great Paola Senatore and the related film sounds created the 90s layered and distorted harsh noise style of The Rita for ‘Possessed Nun Sleaze’. For the Old Europa Cafe CD reissue, the obsession continues with new artwork related to the recent The Rita explicit female shark attack drawings via D’Amato’s vivid murder scenes from Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals (1977).
The murder scene of Sister Angela played by Annamaria Clementi acts as the laser focused theme of the ‘Possessed Nun Sleaze’ CD reissue, but we could never forget Paola Senatore who’s included image features her with a perfect short slicked back hairstyle.
