File under avantgarde, free-spirited, and creative music from the Italian Progressive scene
See all2025 Repress. One of the most sought-after jewels from Italy's legendary Cramps Records finally gets the reissue treatment it deserves! Raul Lovisoni and Francesco Messina's stunning 1979 masterpiece Prati Bagnati Del Monte Analogo – produced by the one and only electronic pioneer Franco Battiato – returns in a faithful reproduction that honors the original sleeve design.
This is Italian Minimalism at its most delicate and transcendent. Not the rigid academic exercises you might expect, but something far more profound: shimmering melodies, subtle harmonic conversations, and vast open spaces that slowly reveal themselves like dawn breaking over mountain peaks. The title track, inspired by René Daumal's surrealist novel Le Mont Analogue, features Francesco Messina on synthesizer alongside Michele Fedrigotti's impressionistic piano work. Meanwhile, Lovisoni's "Hula Om" and "Amon Ra" soar into the stratosphere with solo harp, crystal glasses, and Juri Camisasca's radiant vocal drones.
Both composers are central figures in the Italian avant-garde – part of that remarkable generation who radically rethought musical composition and practice in the 1970s. A sister album to Giusto Pio's breathtaking Motore Immobile (also produced by Battiato around the same time), this record exists in that beautiful intersection of ambient, new age, and experimental music – yet transcends all categories with its transformative beauty.
Essential listening for fans of Jon Hassell, Luciano Cilio, and Popol Vuh. This is CREATIVE MUSIC of the highest order!
