A year had passed since his 1980 self-titled album, and Alberto Camerini had hit the big time, releasing his most commercially successful album (tied with "Rockmantico," which peaked at #62 on the Top 100 Italian Albums of All Time) and his enduring catchphrase. The album was titled "Rudy e Rita," and the song, "Rock 'n Roll Robot," opened the album. The latter was conceived as an LP, with two sides: one male, Rudy's, and Alberto's, in fact, is characterized by yellow on the cover, while the other side is Rita's, with Camerini surrounded by a pink heart. Fourteen tracks, seven per side, for a balanced project. The record company is CBS, where Camerini has been working for a year, and the producer is Roberto Colombo, his high school classmate and friend. I won't go into a track-by-track breakdown, but I'll simply say that, although the famous song is the first, the real treasures are hidden throughout the album, and they are called "Jonnhy," yet another reference to Arlecchino (Zanni Arlequin), for me the best, also because of the final solo; "Miele," released as a B-side with its very sweet melody; "Pennarello e Melaverde," with Alberto reprising the personification he used in "Limone e Cannella" the previous year; and "Il ristorante di Ricciolina," among the most successful of his career and quite famous at the time of the album's release. The rest is made up of rock experiments ("Bip Bip Rock" and "Rock Rap") and delicate but slightly less successful songs, forming a linear continuum in the 43 minutes of the collection, which closes with an 18th-century Venetian boat song, "Quando è Carnevale".
