A multi-composer Finnadar compilation organised around the theme of sleep and lullabies. Ilhan Mimaroglu contributes Sleepsong for Sleepers, a piece drawing on his electronic vocabulary developed across the 1970s Finnadar LPs (Wings of the Delirious Demon, Face the Windmills, Turn Left, Musiques Noires). Doris Hays (also published as Sorrel Hays) and Daniel Goode were both downtown New York composers active in the Composers' Forum circuit; Hays was best known as pianist on the Henry Cowell complete piano music recording for Finnadar in 1977, Goode as clarinettist and Gamelan Son of Lion founder. Goode's piece The Red and White Cows on Lullabies was commissioned and performed by Hays on piano with violin and viola.
The album is part of Mimaroglu's curatorial vision for Finnadar as Atlantic Records' avant-garde subsidiary, the label he had founded in 1971 to release his own work alongside that of Cage, Stockhausen, Boulez, Braxton and Rzewski. By 1985 the Atlantic-Finnadar association was winding down; Sleepers sits near the end of the imprint's active life.
