"Sounds On Grief is a multidisciplinary project that offers a fresh lens on the processes and reflections of grief.

The idea for the project came out of being thrown into my own depths of grief with the unexpected passing of my mom in September 2023. I felt a seismic shift demarcating life before and after her passing, searching for words, music, and art that felt relatable and made me feel a little less alone in grappling with this new life. I was curious to hear how others processed grief, and even more than that, processed life, in the afterglow of losing their own loved ones. Aimee and Alec graciously shared the Objects & Sounds platform as a resource for finding community and comfort while navigating grief and its many contours. This sparked the idea of inviting forth creative expressions in grief and developing a project that gave space for people to actively explore and sit with their own grief. We launched an open call in January, and from there, Sounds On Grief was born.

What you’ll hear, read, and see across this project is a collection of sounds, poems, and visuals from 21 individuals around the world that captures the complex, inexplicable nature of grief—the longing, vulnerability, confusion, anger, hope, fragility, emptiness, and expansiveness that develop in the space of losing the ones we hold most dear. We’re incredibly honored to hold and share these deeply personal experiences of grief from the Sounds On Grief contributors with you." - Allie Hatch
