The ConstruKction of Light, released in 2000, was the first studio album by the four-piece King Crimson of Robert Fripp, Adrian Belew, Trey Gunn and Pat Mastelotto, the so-called Double Duo that emerged after the ProjeKcts had broken the Double Trio into smaller research units.
Without Bill Bruford and Tony Levin, the band turned towards a harder, denser sound: Mastelotto's electronic percussion, Gunn's Warr guitar covering the bass register, and Fripp and Belew locking into the interlocking guitar lines that had defined the group since the 1980s. The album revisits its own past openly, with Larks' Tongues in Aspic Part IV continuing the series begun in 1973 and FraKctured rebuilding the fearsome guitar figure of Fracture, next to the pitch-shifted vocals of ProzaKc Blues and the title track's slow, mechanical build.
The closing Heaven and Earth, credited to ProjeKct X, points towards the sound the band would develop on The Power to Believe three years later.
