*70 copies limited edition* “The songs that brought us home” spill out like sapphire wine from the cup of Hastings collective Necessary Animals, staining everything they touch. Based in the south‑coast town since 2016, the band operates as an alt‑psych/classic‑rock/experimental organism, with a revolving cast of musicians, writers and artists feeding into records, films and performances. On this album they lean fully into that hybridity. Multicoloured drops of sound dissolve into multi‑refractions: the percussive funk‑dub abrasion of 23 Skidoo, the loose, ecstatic jazz sprawl of New Jazz Experience, the outlaw gospel‑tronica of Alabama 3 and the anarchic post‑punk skronk of Good Missionaries all flicker at the edges. None of these influences are quoted straight; they’re passed through the group’s prism and come out warped, tender and slightly haunted.
