The bass and drums of the early Pat Metheny Group (!), Mark Egan on electric bass and Danny Gottlieb on drums, sit under this big band, which Dino Betti van der Noot recorded digitally at Jingle Machine Studios in Milan in 1986. Soul Note released it the following year with notes by Ira Gitler.
The reeds include the saxophonist Bill Evans, then fresh from Miles Davis's band, alongside Gianluigi Trovesi, Hugo Heredia and Riccardo Luppi; Giancarlo Schiaffini is in the trombone section, two cellos and Tiziano Tononi's percussion widen the palette, and Carmen Lundy sings. Memories From A Silent Nebula is the longest piece at twelve minutes, and A Midwinter Night's Dream takes up the title of the bandleader's earlier album.
