Ilpo Väisänen

Member of: Pan Sonic

Ilpo Väisänen is a Finnish electronic musician, born in Kuopio in 1963. He studied art in Turku, and in 1993 he founded the duo Panasonic with Mika Vainio, later renamed Pan Sonic, whose first EP appeared on Sähkö Recordings in 1994. Brainwave Music No. III
On October 30, 2021, Brainwave Music No. III was recorded live as part of a series of ten groundbreaking Brain Wave sound installation performances by Ilpo Väisänen and Dirk Dresselhaus (die Angel). The event took place in the evocative setting of the Life on a Leaf House in Turku, Finland.   At the core of this performance was an interactive system driven by brainwave interfaces. Harnessing the performers’ neural activity, the system enabled Väisänen and Dresselhaus to directly process and shap…

Entropien I
Pan Sonic's Ilpo Väisänen, Dirk Dresselhaus (Schneider TM) and Oren Ambarchi break down to the soul of noise with a new album dedicated to Mika Vainio. If you’re into Vainio, KTL or Ilpo’s brilliant solo work under his own name or as Liima / Piiri, this one's a doozy. Collectively, die Angel model a complex physicality through raw, elemental inputs, exploring a flux of reactive feedback processes and mutating, unstructured sonic states generated from crackling fusions of electronics, drums, elec…

Nine suggestions

Duncan's previous collaborators have included Elliott Sharp, Bernhard Günter and Carl Michael von Hausswolff, and the album is on his own label. As Pan Sonic's reputation would lead you to expect, there's enormous confidence here in the handling of material, whether we're talking about distorted screeching like the st…
