Lee Morgan
Lee Morgan (1938-1972) was an American jazz trumpeter born in Philadelphia. He worked in Dizzy Gillespie's big band while still a teenager, then joined Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers in 1958. He recorded extensively as a leader for Blue Note and is best known for The Sidewinder, whose title track became a crossover hit on the pop chart in 1964. Morgan stayed in Gillespie's band until it broke up in 1958 and left the Jazz Messengers in 1961, returning briefly later. He played trumpet on John Coltrane's Blue Train.
