Tone Poet, the series created in 2019 to mark the 80th anniversary of the blue label, continues its releases. The Blue Note vinyl reissue collection was created with the intention of celebrating the musical and sonic journey of the great artists who have travelled their creative path in the grooves of the label's great albums, helping to make the brand a legend. The series stems from Don Was's (President of Blue Note) admiration for the exceptional reissues for true audiophiles produced by the independent company
Music Matters.
As a result, Joe Harley (known as “The Tone Poet”) was called upon to curate a special series of reissues dedicated to the family of labels united under the Blue Note brand. Meticulous attention to detail has been paid to all aspects of reproduction, from the cover artwork to the care taken in printing, from the unrivalled quality of the mastering entrusted to Kevin Gray to the pressing on 180-gram vinyl by Record Technology Inc. A 19 year-old Lee Morgan already shines from the first track of this magnificent album. It was 1957, the year the trumpeter recorded alongside John Coltrane on Blue Train, and here we find two other protagonists of that album: trombonist Curtis Fuller and double bassist Paul Chambers. Completing the magnificent cast are George Coleman on tenor sax, Ray Bryant on piano and Art Taylor on drums.
