Malcolm Goldstein

Malcolm Goldstein, born in Brooklyn in 1936, is an American violinist and composer specialising in new music, free improvisation and music for dance, active since the early 1960s. With James Tenney and Philip Corner he co-founded the Tone Roads Ensemble, which championed Ives, Ruggles and Varèse alongside their own work, and he was part of the Judson Dance Theater and the New York experimental scene. His violin playing treats the instrument as a field of grain, noise and microtonal detail, and his compositions often use graphic and text scores that open the sound to the performer's search.
