Yuji Takahashi
Yuji Takahashi is a Japanese pianist and composer, born in Tokyo in 1938. He came to attention in the early 1960s as a performer of the postwar avant-garde, giving first performances of works by Iannis Xenakis and Toru Takemitsu, and has since composed for instruments, electronics, computers, voices and Japanese traditional instruments, alongside recordings that range from Bach and Satie to Cage. Takahashi studied at the Toho Gakuen School of Music with Minao Shibata and Roh Ogura and co-founded the New Directions group with Toshi Ichiyanagi and Kenji Kobayashi.
