Genoa's Magma was a library label with a secret: its anonymous "musiche di atmosfera" were largely recorded by members of the city's progressive rock scene, with Picchio dal Pozzo and Latte e Miele tracks showing up under pseudonyms across the SMAG series. A Luci Rosse is the seventh and the only one with a picture cover, and its remit is spelled out in the title: cues for Italian soft-core and hard-core cinema, from candlelit to clinical. The writing is by Giggi Mosello and Beppe Aleo of I Signori della Galassia, with Minimoog, Solina strings, Hammond, a Fender Rhodes and a rhythm section that clearly listened to Cerrone.

Four Flies reissued it recently (digital only), which tells you where the market has gone. The original is thin on the ground, eighteen copies logged worldwide at time of writing. A key document of the Italian library underground, and funnier than most of it.
