condition (disc/cover): M / M (still sealed) Archives Génétiquement Modifiées / Société II on Robot Records demonstrates Luc Ferrari's late-period mastery of what might be called electroacoustic autobiography. The "genetically modified archives" of the title refer to his own back catalog, decades of field recordings and studio experiments now spliced, recombined, mutated into new organisms. It's a procedure that risks self-indulgence but achieves something closer to confession.
"Société II" extends his investigations into social sound, the acoustic texture of collective human life. Ferrari was always more interested in the café than the concert hall, more drawn to the train station than the studio. This release proves that his approach, once considered heretical by the GRM establishment, had become its own tradition, a counter-history of electroacoustic music rooted in the everyday.
