1988 album of avant-garde ethnic jazz on Jazz Haus Musik with the German saxophone ensemble joined by two African percussion groups. With insert.

condition (record/cover): NM / VG+ (light general wear)

One title on side two is pure Cologne dialect: Datjibbetdojahnit, roughly "that can't be true". It sits next to a version of Wallace Stevens's Thirteen Ways Of Looking At A Blackbird and a Spanish El Otro Dia, which gives a fair idea of what the Kölner Saxophon Mafia set out to do here.

The saxophone quintet, Roger Hanschel, Gerhard Veeck, Dirk Raulf, Wollie Kaiser and Joachim Ullrich, playing everything from sopranino to bass saxophone and contrabass clarinet, meets two percussion groups, Drümmele Maa and Elima, seven percussionists in all, with Stefan Bauer on vibraphone and marimba. They recorded it in August 1988 at the Stadtgarten studios in Cologne, and Jazz Haus Musik released it that year.
