Three composers gathered by Opus One: Claire Polin, the Philadelphia flutist and composer whose work drew on both Celtic mythology and modernist techniques; Michael Horwood; and Jackson Hill. Polin's Cader Idris - named for the Welsh mountain associated with bardic legend - is characteristic of her interest in Celtic and pre-Christian cultural material as compositional resource, an approach that placed her outside most of her contemporaries' concerns while producing music of considerable individual character.
