Huge Tip! The new Girolamo De Simone album is finally out. In his own words "The title, ‘Liturgy', refers to a certain method of creating music, it involves a process that is analogous to a ritual, starting from the moment of composition. This process has the ability to evoke a heightened state of consciousness, where the focus is on perceiving others from one's own perspective and being fully present in the current moment. The essence of the action or movement in this music lies in the transition between individuality, a kind of reversal that involves accessing sound or silence. This transition is evident from the early stages of composition, where a shorthand manuscript technique based on "support points" or "subtraction" is used. This technique is then carried over to the execution of the performance, which includes improvisational elements.

The work was commissioned by the Fondazione Morra in Naples, on the occasion of an exhibition dedicated to the poet Henri Chopin in April 2024. The tribute to French music in this context serves as both a type of memory and a sign of transfiguration. It is not only implicit, but rather explicitly deconstructed into minimum cells. These cells move in a contrasting manner to the vocal and electro-acoustic experiments of Henri Chopin. Additional tracks serve as conduits of significance, either aligning with French music (such as the tribute to Erik Satie's esoteric perspective through a modified rendition of my previous composition, 'La settima Gnossienne') or venturing towards the future, exemplified by 'Corale per Lorenzo' and 'Piccola invenzione bimodale'. These compositions delve into novel harmonic techniques and exhibit an almost aphoristic brevity in their thematic development. Every track on the disc faithfully reproduces the live performance, serving as both documentation and a means of preserving the energetic and welcoming atmosphere that seemed to encapsulate the experience of the 'Liturgies' for approximately thirty minutes. This recording aims to capture and commemorate that unique sense of propulsion and connection felt by those who were present, both within and beyond the auditory realm.

Girolamo De Simone (Napoli 1964) lives and works on the mountainside of Monte Somma, close to Vesuvius. A musician and cultural agitator, he is considered to be one of the main exponents of the Italian avant-garde related to frontier music.
