And just like that, you’ll never think of improvisation the same way again. GPS is the emerging trio raising the bar for improvised music, and 577 Records is elated to present its debut album, Directions + Destinations. The group includes clarinet wizard Guillermo Gregorio, Yamaha Performance Artist Charley Sabatino on the double bass, and flourishing saxophonist Jeff Pearring. What they make isn’t just music; it’s an unforgettable experience. Recorded in two sessions a year apart, Directions + Destinations marks the trio’s first studio-recorded album. It features fourteen delicious tracks that keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what’s next. Some have been composed, while most feature the pure, unadulterated, spontaneous creativity that is their musical signature.
GPS is known for manifesting the “unexpected” in their music through seemingly intuitive improvisation. By mixing that with select elements from various traditional genres and unusual instrumentation, they’ve created a whole new expression that cannot be singularly categorized. The essence of the trio’s unique sound is the result of an attuned interaction between them and their ability to listen deeply to each other and the whole of their group. The artists also contribute their personal experiences from performing internationally to achieve a highly distinctive style. And it is often driven by their ceaseless craving for uninterrupted communication with their audience.
Although Guillermo and Charley are new to 577 Records, Jeff is a loyal member of the label’s community. In 2022, he was a resident in its first-ever Sounds of Freedom Music Residencies in Sutri, Italy. He continues to participate in 577’s New York Forward Festival. Save the date! Get Directions + Destinations on June, 6th. Only 200 first-edition CDs will be available, but you can also get it on digital download.
