Band Aid formed in Lecce in 1980 from the core of La Mela d’Oro, a “Mediterranean jazz” group that had attracted the interest of music critics, particularly at the 1977 Nuove Tendenze Festival in Bari. Band Aid’s musical project is based on the language of jazz with rock-funk and progressive influences (Jazz-Fusion, Musica Creativa Improvvisata, Canterbury). Their style is defined as “No Jazz,” which is not a negation but rather recalls the American No-Wave in its innovative spirit. In 1980, the group moved to Bologna and fully integrated into the current of musical renewal of the time, with the distinctive trait of a unique style. That same year, they released their first LP, “No Autostop,” for Italian Records. In 1982, “Due,” their second LP for Italian Records, was released, recently recognized by Rumore magazine as one of the 100 most representative albums of the period.
