EARsalon gathers a selection of chamber works by Henning Christiansen for recorder, tenor flute, piano, tuba and bassoon, recorded on October 5, 2023 at Klanghallen, the concert hall of the art space 44MØEN on the Danish island of Møn. The performers are recorder player Michala Petri, for whom Christiansen wrote a number of pieces, pianist Christoffer Møller and Jakob Munk on tuba and bassoon, with Sofie Amalie Klougart reading the text of Op.33 Models For Piano.
The title comes from an exhibition Christiansen held at Galleri Riis og Givskov in Horsens in 1985. At its centre stood a large, heavy barber's chair, and on the wall in front of it an inscription invited visitors to have their right ear painted green while they waited.
The programme runs from Op.33 Models For Piano, which takes up more than seventeen minutes, through Op.52 Excerpts from Satie in High Sea, a set of excerpts from the recorder compositions written for Petri, Op.168 sTilsTand, here recorded for the first time, and Spiderweb Duo, to Op.132 Distances Must Be Overcome. All the scores come from The Henning Christiansen Archive, which is run by the composer's family. The recording is by John Formsgaard, production and editing by Mark Harwood, executive production by Thorbjørn Reuter Christiansen, and the event was organised by Jacob Kreutzfeldt at 44MØEN.
Limited art edition of 100 copies, individually stamped and numbered, in a gold sleeve with booklet.
