Logical Harmonies assembles seven pieces by UK composer Richard Glover, realized by a mobile ensemble including Philip Thomas (piano), Mark Bradley (clarinet), Mira Benjamin (violin), Andrea Stewart (cello), Bob Gilmore (keyboard), Seth Woods (cello), and others. Glover’s process-based music explores the transformation of simple harmonic patterns - major and minor thirds, triads, pure intervals - over extended time. Rather than evoke drama, each work layers tones and intervals into evolving constellations, uncovering acoustic beating and other psychoacoustic phenomena through strict compositional procedures. “Beatings in a Linear Process” reveals minute fluctuations between tuning systems, “Contracting Triads” traces gradual narrowing of harmonic distance, while “Imperfect Harmony” and “Gradual Music” introduce changes so subtle they defy quick perception.

The pieces are uncompromising in their rigor, yet they yield a radiant spectrum of color andsensation: chords shimmer and waver, instrumental voices merge and separate, temporal structure slows so that micro-variations come into focus. This is chamber music that privilegesprocess and communal listening; the ensemble’s restraint and clarity encourage deep engagement with sonic detail. Each composition enacts Glover’s fascination for alteration “from within the sound” - transformations that are barely traceable from any single line, but unmistakable when heard as a whole.

As a whole, Logical Harmonies sits in conversation with contemporaries like James Saunders andBryn Harrison, but Glover’s ear for pure harmony and gradual change is distinctive. The album serves as both a study in constraint and a canvas for acoustic adventure, offering beauty in theslow sweep of evolution, perceptual interplay, and harmonic breath.
