Morgan Evans-Weiler (violin & electronics) and J.P.A. Falzone (prepared piano & celesta) present four beautifully reduced duets—music that is, as the label describes it, "as delicate as a feather, but also as tough as nails." This is the duo's third Another Timbre release, following the double album Chordioid (2020)—which the label calls "one of the hidden treasures in the Another Timbre catalogue"—and Ascending Music (2021).

The duo's collaborative process involves jointly developing works that blur the lines between composition and improvisation, creating chamber music of exquisite restraint. Chordioid featured two long pieces—one by Falzone, one by Evans-Weiler—for violin, piano, vibraphone, and fortepiano. Ascending Music explored the reed organ alongside their core instrumentation. Penumbra continues this trajectory with four intimately scaled pieces that showcase their distinctive sonic world: hushed, carefully calibrated, and deeply attentive to the interplay between acoustic instruments and subtle electronic processing.

Evans-Weiler is a violinist and composer whose work spans composed and improvised contexts. His projects include Correspondences—a conceptual work realized by multiple artists including Joseph Clayton Mills, Fraufraulein, Sarah Hughes, and Patrick Farmer—and collaborations with composer Michael Pisaro performed by the electroacoustic ensemble Ordinary Affects. He has also worked with Swiss musician Christoph Schiller creating "beautifully restrained & gentle music."

Falzone (who often goes by J.P.A. Falzone or James Falzone) is a pianist and composer known for his delicate, meticulously crafted chamber works. Together, Evans-Weiler and Falzone have developed a distinctive aesthetic of understated beauty, where every sound is placed with exacting care, creating music that rewards patient, focused listening.
