Debris / Tunings is a set of seven pieces for Morgan Evans-Weiler (violin, electronics) and Carlo Costa (vibraphone, percussion), composed by Evans-Weiler and recorded by him in September 2025.
The composer describes the work as handling a material: weaving and moulding sound objects and looking at them from every side. Their edges are smooth or rough, they can move or sit almost still while small changes are observed, and the label text speaks of closeness and intimacy with these sounds. The playing is improvisational inside set limits. Noise and tone give the material a simple spine, and fixed durations replace a frame or a pedestal. The seven parts, numbered I to VII, last between four and seven minutes each, about 39 minutes in all.
Mastered by Luke Damrosch. Limited edition cassette on Dinzu Artefacts, released October 30th 2026.
