*300 copies limited edition* "Martina Verhoeven is a Flemish pianist who likes to seek musical adventure, in different line-ups. The album Martina Verhoeven Invites contains two sessions recorded at Cafe Oto in London on July 23, 2023. During the concert, Gina Southgate made the painting that appears on the cover of the sleeve, which manages to capture the action of the musicians perfectly, as far as I am concerned - lots of color, lots of movement, and a special way of playing together. Two long improvisations - Set One about half an hour, Set Two about three quarters of an hour, in which the musicians travel from apparent chaos to subtle harmony and back again. Not music to be used as background, as a casual visitor here observed - you really have to sit down for this and listen attentively, then you will hear how all these virtuoso musicians together musically push the boundaries and how exciting that is.

Besides Martina Verhoeven on grand piano, you hear Andrew Lisle on drums, Benedict Taylor on viola, Cath Roberts on baritone saxophone, Charlotte Keeffe on trumpet, Colin Webster on alto saxophone, Daniel Thompson on acoustic guitar and Dirk Serries on guitar, Tom Jackson on clarinet and Tom Ward on bass clarinet and flute. Truly a great bunch, who already know the ropes, and are here playing sharply and with passion. Just listen to the excerpts I show, and especially listen to them a few times, because it's always about the details and the subtle collaboration." - Moors Magazine
