Ezra Laderman, the Brooklyn-born composer who studied with Stefan Wolpe and Miriam Gideon and spent much of his career at SUNY Binghamton, brought to his vocal music a lyrical intelligence shaped by his European modernist training and an engagement with Jewish liturgical and literary tradition. Songs For Eve and From The Psalms, on Desto Records, document the vocal dimension of a composer whose opera and orchestral work received more attention but whose chamber vocal music has claims to particular distinction.
