*300 copies limited edition* Dominique Grimaud, a historical figure in French musical avant-garde, is known as a founding member of Camizole and Video Aventures, two groups that profoundly shaped the underground scene of the 1970s in France. Camizole, formed in 1970 in the wake of the May ’68 protests, stood out for its improvised performances and happenings, inspired by the Living Theatre and characterized by radical expressive freedom and a rejection of commercial musical conventions. The group, with Grimaud as its only permanent member, was a laboratory for sonic and social experimentation, involving around twenty musicians and using traditional instruments, everyday objects, and innovative sound manipulation techniques for the time.

In 1978, after merging with Lard Free, Grimaud founded the duo Video Aventures with Monique Alba, now considered a precursor of contemporary electronic sounds. Video Aventures distinguished itself with a minimalist and personal approach, alternating melodic moments with harsher, more experimental passages, in line with the tradition of Rock in Opposition and European avant-garde. Over the years, Grimaud continued to explore new sonic territories, moving from pioneering use of analog synthesizers and early samplers in the 1970s, to integrating elements of Delta blues in the 1990s, and eventually returning to electronics and collaborating with artists such as Pascal Comelade, Pierre Bastien, and David Fenech in the 2000s.

Sur les bords” created together with percussionist Véronique Vilhet, represents a mature synthesis of these experiences. The music unfolds in a rough and deep manner, guided by the “thousand voices” of Grimaud’s treated guitars and spinet, while Vilhet’s percussion, often enriched with echo effects, creates a dense and hypnotic sonic tapestry. Vilhet also adds her ethereal voice, contributing to a balance between the tradition of the French underground of the seventies and the most current trends in experimental music.

The presence of David Fenech, a guitarist and composer among the most relevant of the new French experimental scene, known for his collaborations with figures such as Nurse With Wound, Jac Berrocal, and Pascal Comelade, further enriches the project.
The result is a work that reflects the richness and complexity of the French underground scene: music born from the rejection of market-imposed rules, from the desire to experiment and create alternative artistic communities, and which continues to influence new generations of musicians in France and abroad.
