David Janssen is best know for his work as Ted The Loaf in Renaldo & The Loaf. When the band came to a halt in 2006, he concentrated on solo music. The Darkening Scale project was born. It is a purely digital affair created by David in his home studio. Klanggalerie have previously released 5 albums by this project: Sonic Archeology, Hydrogen Kaleidoscope, The Entomology Of Sound, Locum Windsock and the Darkening Scale re-working of Duck Stab by The Residents, Stuck Bad. After a pause of several years The Darkening Scale is now back with new music.
This is what David says about the album: "The Darkening Scale is set to release a new CD, The Empty Mirror, following a long gestation period. It’s been existence since 2022 and has been edited and reworked several times over the past three years. The album features some of the more abstract elements of the Lockdown Music series, earlier ‘lockdown’ pieces from one particularly nowbound winter and some newer material." You will find the trademark DS sound next to more atmospheric pieces, and here or there there's traces of Renaldo & The Loaf.
