*70 copies limited edition* "On his new album Tongue Ebbing Into a Tenebrist Dusk, St. Louis artist NNN Cook explores the complex terrain of speech and thought, of quiet interiority and the outward expressions that can emerge from it. Following this interest in language, each track title presents a variation on a tongue depicted in a new tint, though the tracks themselves are also chambers for presenting Cook’s unique approach to the Rhodes piano. The instrument here is stripped of its common associations with known genres and is instead treated like a blank slate on which the artist can experiment with feedback, decay, foggy tones and lucid resonance. On “Tongue in Ivory Black Dusk,” he emphasizes the many layers to be found within the keyboard’s murky low-end churn. On “Tongue in Yellow Ochre Dusk,” the piano’s percussive essence is brought to the forefront, with a gently repeating riff that makes it resemble the metallic song from a mbira. Fragments of melody and pulses of rhythm appear above a droning mist throughout the album, as Cook charts new sonic pathways for the Rhodes and creates a soundtrack for an unspoken topography." - Matthew Erickson
