Wayne Shorter
Wayne Shorter (1933-2023) was an American tenor and soprano saxophonist and composer. He was born in Newark, New Jersey, and died in Los Angeles. He was the main composer of Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, played in Miles Davis's second quintet, and co-founded Weather Report with Joe Zawinul in 1970. Shorter joined the Jazz Messengers in 1959 and became their musical director, then joined Miles Davis in 1964, staying through In a Silent Way and Bitches Brew. His Blue Note albums as leader include Night Dreamer, JuJu, Speak No Evil, Adam's Apple and Super Nova. He left Weather Report in 1985.
