2023 Japanese CD re-issue with bonus track on Sony's "We Want Jazz" series of the 1968 album featuring Ron Carter, Tony Williams, Herbie Hancock, George Benson and Wayne Shorter. Still sealed with obi.

condition (disc/cover): M / M (still sealed)

Obi included.

Recorded across 1968, and the last record before everything came apart and reassembled. Gil Evans worked on the arrangements without taking a credit, Chick Corea and Dave Holland appear on two tracks as Herbie Hancock and Ron Carter made their exits, and Miles Davis was falling in love with Betty Mabry, who is on the cover and after whom "Mademoiselle Mabry" is named. The electric piano is now the default rather than a novelty, the rhythms have gone loose and circular, and "Petits Machins" is as close as this music ever came to sounding like an actual French film score. Beautiful, hovering, unresolved.

Japanese Sony CD edition. The last stop before the storm.
