Liquid Liquid emerged from New York City's vibrant Downtown scene in 1981. Formed by drummer Scott Hartley, bassist Richard McGuire, vocalist Sal Principato and marimba player Dennis Young, the group cut their teeth in underground clubs and street art circles before solidifying their trailblazing style—a fusion of irresistible basslines, junkyard percussion and urgent, free-flowing lyrics. Their three EPs, all originally released on legendary 99 Records, would heavily influence dance-orie…
Underground German kosmic rock band GAM recorded their sole record, Eisziet, in 1978 and then shelved it after the master tape disappeared. Comprised of echo-guitar pioneer Günter Schickert, guitarist Axel Struck, and drummer Michael Leske, GAM’s record sat undiscovered and thought lost until The Crack in the Cosmic Egg authors Alan and Steven Freeman tracked down Günter, found out that he had a copy of the recording, and released it on CD on their label, Cosmic Egg, in 2004.Championed by Julian…
"All tracks newly remastered. Liner notes by Vivien Goldman. Lizzy Mercier Descloux may have come of age in Paris, but it's in New York's Lower East Side that she really came alive. The French punk pioneer, a friend of Patti Smith and Richard Hell, moved to New York in 1977 and soon immersed herself in avant-garde poetry, performance art, and punk music. Closely associated with the founders of ZE Records (home to Was (Not Was) and Kid Creole & The Coconuts), Descloux released her debut alb…
"With their first album, legendary French art-rock band Wapassou found a distinctive musical voice: well-developed melodies, rhythmic organ, prominent droning violin, and guitar doubling-up as a rhythm instrument. They often conjure up what it might have sounded like had John Cale and Stereolab formed a band in 1974, the year this album was released. The five tracks are highly original, varied and inventive, steeped in post-psychedelic rock. Although Wapassou are noted for playing without …
Graham Stephenson [trumpet, microphone];Aaron Zarzutzki [synthesizer]Recorded live at Issue Project Room, Brooklyn, New York - 25th May 2013"Graham Stephenson (trumpet) and Aaron Zarzutzki (synthesizer) are part of Chicago's improvised music community centered around Myopic Bookstore and other long-running platforms. Outstanding reissue. CD version. House in deluxe gatefold Stoughton tip-on jacket. Newly remastered audio. Includes rare archive photos and liner notes Q&A with Krog. The work of Karin Krog may be unfamiliar to much of the world, but in her native Norway and Scandinavia at large, she's practically a household name. This says much about the local enthusiasm for post-bop jazz but also about the tyranny of distribution: until 1994, Karin Krog's albums weren't available in the USA or UK, meaning thr…
Lurking around the Northwest music world for years playing with the likes of the Black Cat Orchestre, Earth, David Byrne, Terry Riley, Nirvana and a ton of other musicians, here we have Lori Goldstons' beautiful cello playing in its purest form - unaccompanied and acoustic. The pieces on this LP all carry a certain level of austerity and gravitas, though they never come off as cold. On the contrary, they are warm emotional pieces of music played by someone who really knows their way aroun…

La Morte Young (what a name !) is a supergroup, as people said in the seventies, but without any real stars. LMY includes every members of Nappe, Sun Stabbed and Talweg. If the blues was the background of many of the supergroups from the past, here it's more The Dead C or the dark side of Sonic Youth which are the most obvious influences (velocity and dexterity, move on). A first eponymous album composed of fives tracks that have their names borrowed from jazz, where you can find some long …

** restocked** At times barely more than breathing, at others breaking into full-throated song, A Doughnut's End is a highly concentrated sequence of solo improvisations that captures the full range of Phil Minton's vocal powers."Many of the sounds on the album’s 15 short tracks are unpleasant, but they’re all the more powerful for it. This work is in no way deprived of wonder, and you have to marvel at the breadth of what Minton can do. “Breaking News” bleeds from high pitched warbling to m…

the two LP's on black vinyl at special price. Bernard Vitet was a key figure in the French free jazz and improv scene of the early '70s. This mythical avant-jazz LP, originally released in 1972, is the result of a truly magical session he put together in December '71. Not just free jazz from the '70s, the music has some 20th-century elements that recall some of the most memorable albums on the Italian label Cramps Records. This first-ever officially-licensed vinyl reissue is the fifth in…
Highly surreal and wonderfully futuristic, Tacet, one of the best kept secrets of the Futura catalog, is the 1971 soundtrack work of Jean Guérin for Claude Faraldo's anarchic 1971 film Bof... Anatomie d'un livreur. This avant-garde psychedelic jazz masterpiece is a blend of abstract vocals, unusual electronics, twisted sound envelopes, and nervous brass instruments. This first-ever officially-licensed vinyl reissue is the fourth in Souffle Continu's series reissues of Futura reissues, fully lice…

Although they have not previously recorded together, the pairing of Bryan Eubanks and Stéphane Rives makes perfect sense. French soprano saxophonist Rives is already a long-serving Potlatch veteran, with this being his fourth release on the label, following in the wake of his 2003 solo soprano album Fibres, the ground-breaking saxophone quartet Propagations (Potlatch, 2007) and his 2011 duo with the Paris-based Japanese percussionist Seijiro Murayama, Axiom for the Duration. As with the other sa…
CD edition. Mindblowing!!! A gorgeously dreamlike album, suspended in a timeless, spiritually resonant space ... Yuen Shan (Round Mountain in Chinese) was conceived in 1972 and finalized in 2014. It’s a musical cosmogony in four cycles based on different levels of ancient Asian spiritual principles and mechanisms. A major work in Ranta's oeuvre (his first solo release in almost 25 years), highly personal and spiritual. 16 track composition for pre-recorded sounds and live percussion perform…
The Ensemble Grizzana (Ryoko Akama, Mira Benjamin, Richard Craig, Emma Richards, Philip Thomas and Seth Woods) performs a series of delicate and beautiful chamber pieces by Swiss composer and clarinetist Jurg Frey, who also performs on clarinet.
