It is the fifth volume in the magazine's Tribute series, after Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, LCD Soundsystem and Andrew Weatherall, and the artist readers had been requesting most since the series began. Sandison and Eoin started recording in the Pentland Hills outside Edinburgh in the mid-eighties, circulated tapes among a small circle under the Music70 name, surfaced on Skam with Twoism and Hi Scores, and moved to Warp for Music Has the Right to Children in 1998. That record, with its detuned analogue synths, degraded tape textures, children's voices and half-remembered educational film cues, set the terms for a large part of electronic music since. Geogaddi, The Campfire Headphase and Tomorrow's Harvest followed at long intervals, each surrounded by numerology, hidden messages and elaborate release campaigns, while the duo themselves gave almost no interviews. Inferno, released this year, is their first album in thirteen years.

The book follows the structure of the earlier volumes: a timeline, a family tree of collaborators and associates, essays on each album, a full discography, a gear list, longer features and shorter opinion pieces, and a body of photography. Contributors include Simon Reynolds, David Keenan and Elizabeth Alker. Reynolds opens by observing that many musicians have cultivated cultishness, but few have managed it as thoroughly as this pair. Given how little the band has ever said in public, the book works largely from the records, the artwork and the surrounding culture, which is probably the only honest way to write about them.
