The Cabildos are among the most mysterious names in 1970s library music. All that is known is that they took their name from Johnny Cabildo, an Italian keyboardist and composer living in Florida, who wrote all the music on the only three albums they released: Yuxtaposición (1972, as Cabildo's Three), Cross Fire (1974) and Where Is the Cat? (1979).
Cross Fire came out in 1974 on Vroommm Records and was recorded in Miami by a trio: Cabildo on keyboards, Max Ronnie on drums, congas, timbales, kabasa and tambourine, and Jo Gain on electric bass. With just those three players the record covers a remarkable range of sounds, from Latin jazz and funk fusion to the Afro-Cuban percussion of African Jewel, Habana Keynote and Barrio Bueno.
Like all library music it was made for films, documentaries and commercials rather than for record shops. Redi Edizioni reissues it with a faithful reproduction of the original artwork.
Clear red vinyl.
