2025 Repress ** Gatefold sleeve with clear transparent vinyl. ** A landmark in Italian jazz-rock and free improvisation returns: Duello Madre’s self-titled 1973 LP, long revered as a cult classic, is newly reissued in a deluxe 2025 edition on clear transparent vinyl with a gatefold sleeve. Emerging from the fertile Genoese progressive scene, Duello Madre brought together four virtuoso musicians: guitarist Marco Zoccheddu (Nuova Idea, Osage Tribe), bassist Bob Callero (Osage Tribe), drummer Dede Lo Previte (Circus 2000), and saxophonist/flutist Pippo Trentin.

With its fearless blend of jazz-rock, progressive experimentation, and free improvisation, Duello Madre stands as a singular statement in the Italian underground. The album is almost entirely instrumental, characterized by fiery interplay, shifting time signatures, and extended improvisational passages. Tracks like “Momento” and “Otto” showcase the group’s telepathic chemistry, with Callero’s elastic basslines and Lo Previte’s dynamic drumming laying the foundation for Zoccheddu’s searing guitar work and Trentin’s expressive sax and flute. The lone vocal track, “Aquile blu,” adds a haunting, psychedelic touch, but it’s the band’s collective energy and spontaneous creativity that define the record.

Drawing inspiration from the likes of Soft Machine, Nucleus, and the European free jazz movement, Duello Madre pushed Italian prog into uncharted territory, fusing the sophistication of jazz with the raw power of rock and the unpredictability of free improv. The result is a heady, cinematic journey-at once cerebral and visceral, structured yet open-ended.

Lovingly reissued for a new generation, Duello Madre is essential listening for fans of jazz-rock, progressive music, and boundary-pushing improvisation. A rare opportunity to rediscover one of Italy’s most adventurous and accomplished ensembles, now restored to its full analog glory.
