A contemporary "opera for a lonely woman" inspired by the Blood Countess, composed and released in 1983 on Harmonia Mundi's "Evénement / Musique française d'aujourd'hui" series.

condition (record/cover): NM / NM

Gatefold sleeve. Insert included.

Charles Chaynes, pupil of Darius Milhaud and winner of the Prix de Rome, called Erzsebet an "opera for a lonely woman". The subject is Erzsébet Báthory, the Hungarian countess of the blood legend, and the libretto by Ludovic Janvier gives the whole opera to a single singer, set against the orchestra.

The soprano Christiane Eda-Pierre sings the title role, with Michael Lonsdale as the spoken voice and Pierre Doukan on violin, and the Orchestre National de l'Opéra de Paris under Elgar Howarth. Released in 1983 by Harmonia Mundi in the Musique française d'aujourd'hui series, in a gatefold with the libretto.
