Song album by Icelandic visual artist Egill Sæbjörnsson, produced by J Tyler Ludwick with drums by Mathias Brendel, released by The Vinyl Factory in 2020. Gatefold vinyl, 500 copies.

Moonlove is an album of songs by the Icelandic artist Egill Sæbjörnsson, released by The Vinyl Factory in November 2020. Since the mid-1990s Sæbjörnsson has used computers, projections, animation and self-generating video to make installations he sees as a technological continuation of painting. Music has always run through that work, inside the installations and in performance. Here it stands on its own, as eleven songs that each build a small world, the way his pieces in the gallery do.

Sæbjörnsson, who lives in Berlin, has written music since his teens. His album Tonk of the Lawn came out on Bad Taste in Reykjavík in 2000 and gave him a following in Iceland. On Moonlove he wrote the songs and made the artwork. The production is by J Tyler Ludwick, Mathias Brendel plays the drums, and the album features contributions from the composer Áki Ásgeirsson, a long-time collaborator from the S.L.Á.T.U.R. circle, and the artist Ásdís Sif Gunnarsdóttir.

The record moves through eleven songs, five on the first side and six on the second, from Good Day to On My Shoulders. The title track sits in the middle of side A, right after Gubbi Gubbi. The titles show the range. Isafjardarmær is the maid of Ísafjörður, S(w)ing plays on singing and swinging, and You Put the Blues Inside of Me nods to older pop forms. With Brendel on drums and Ludwick producing, these are songs made with a band in mind, not sound pieces.

The album belongs to a practice where objects and characters are given voices. In 2017 Sæbjörnsson represented Iceland at the Venice Biennale with Out of Controll in Venice. He handed the pavilion over to two invented trolls, Ūgh and Bõögâr, credited with making its content. His installations often treat sculptures as performers and instruments at the same time. In the label's words: "Every song is a world of its own, in the same way that every painting or installation is a universe unto itself."

LP on black vinyl in a CMYK gatefold sleeve with 6mm spine and gloss varnish, artwork by Egill Sæbjörnsson, design by Paul Pensom, mastering by Noel Summerville. Limited edition of 500.
