Roman Leyva has never claimed to be a pioneer or innovator, but he is a master of his craft, building on to established Harsh Noise aesthetics with relentless precision, always driven by his own passions and obsessions. Few artists have matched his dedicated commitment and service to Harsh Noise, whether it's promoting new projects on his DIY imprint Cadre, having the courage and insight to narrate an entire noise documentary or hosting the amazingly informative 'Harsh Truths Podcast' (now streaming on Spotify)...he puts in the work and deserves all the recognition he can possibly get.
His sound is not striving to be new or unique, just carefully executed and meticulously dialed, melding key aspects of the genre: low end crunch and piercing feedback. The two sounds are at once balanced between battling each other for dominance and inevitably uniting as the ultimate tag team in abrasive sonic supremacy. As a change of pace, there are no female wrestlers or monster trucks adorning the cover art of "Our Enemy, Civilization" but more of a return to the themes found on the "Elements of Refusal" cassette released by AAD a few years back...and who better to handle the graphic design than Danny Costa (Cost/Unexamine)?
