This compilation highlights some of the best music written for the Keith Prowse/Peter Maurice (KPM) and Conroy recorded music libraries during the 1970s. The accent is firmly on the funk, and here it's incorporated into a variety of settings including small group, big band and orchestral. Originally recorded specifically for use as underscore material in TV, radio and film productions, and, as such, unavailable to the record-buying public, this CD marks the first time this music has been made commercially available. The work of several of the UK's leading composer-arrangers is represented. Hammond organ legend and general all-round funkateer Alan Hawkshaw contributes with three killer tracks - Traffic, Challenger and String Boogie - the last one co-composed with drummer and fellow library music legend Brian Bennett.

From the pen of Keith Mansfield comes three sublime, funky big band tracks - Before Summer Ends, Groovy Move and Gospel Truth - from his ultra-rare 1976 Conroy LP 'New Dimension' that featured an all-star British jazz line-up including Pete King (alto sax), Brian Smith (tenor sax), John Taylor (piano) and Brian Odges (bass guitar). There is much more to savour on this superb release, with exciting, progressive funk scores from the likes of John Scott, Nick Ingman, John Cameron, James Clarke and others. `Sounds of the Times' - music that is of its time yet also ahead of its time.
